Introduction The CRKT Veff Sharp Sharpener was designed by Tom Veff. He is known as the leading professional knife sharpener in the Pacific Northwest, and also as the designer of CRKT’s patented Veff Serrations. Like many other knife collectors, Veff prefers his tools to be razor sharp. He was dissatisfied with the available tapered diamond sharpeners, so he designed the CRKT Veff Sharp to be the ultimate portable multi-purpose sharpener. The Veff Sharp is effective on most serrations and works equally well on knives with a guthook and on belt cutters. ## CRKT Veff Sharp Sharpener dimensions The sharpening steels have a flat side for sharpening the a plain edge and a convex side with different diameters to sharpen serrated edges. This allows you to sharpen almost any kind of serration, small or large. The CRKT Veff Sharp Sharpener includes an anodised aluminium handle and two diamond-coated ANSI 600 grit (1000 JIS) sharpening steels. The rods have three sections of each 5 cm long. The smaller rod’s diameters are 2.38 mm, 4.76 mm and 6.35 mm. The larger rod’s diameters are 8.73 mm, 12.7 mm and 15.88 mm. The larger rod also has a flat side of 15.24 cm in length. ## How to use the CRKT Veff Sharp Sharpener Use the Veff Sharp without oil or water. Select the right diameter for the knife you’re sharpening. Check the sharpening angle and then move the sharpening rod back and forth through the serrations. Correct use and maintenance guarantee a lifetime of effective use. Light to moderate pressure is all that is needed for the diamonds to do their job. If you have sharpened the serrated side of the blade properly, a burr will form on the back or flat side of the blade edge. Remove this burr using the flat side of the sharpener and place it almost flat on the burr side of the cut. Apply light pressure and pull the sharpener over the burr until it is removed. This will leave you with a sharp cutting edge. Wipe the diamond sharpeners after each use, for example with rubbing alcohol, to clean them.
